The Old Machinist had just arrived at the AT&SF Pasadena Depot at the end of a very satisfying day spent riding a “railfan special” train when this photograph was taken. He did not have his tripod with him, but he wanted to record this scene even though it was evening time. So, he went for some hand held shots knowing it was a waste of film. He was not expecting much as he looked at the returned prints. He asks you, “Was I lucky or not?”. The Old Machinist knows for certain he was – fifty years ago!
